Entre crystal et bête examines the displacement of a colony of ants during a critical change in their surroundings. Creating sugar-cube “screens” (squares made of 100 sugar cubes) to attract the insects and provoke a wave of erratic movements, the work isolates and displays the algorithmic behavioral patterns begotten through the pure ecstatic wandering of their bodies. These movements are, then, transposed onto a digital screen and reminisce of excited atoms or flickering pixels of encoded digital data.

Entre crystal et bête wishes to further explore the relation between digital algorithms, migration of biomass and geological flux, and social behavior structured by cultural taboos.
