Nataliya Petkova articulates her research around two main axes: first, the creation and exploration of micro-territories, along with the questioning of cultural identity and the promotion of a dynamic infraculture; and second, the process of translation—the transfer of meaning from one medium to another, from one language to another—and the anomalies that emerge during this process.
Her work seeks to narrate the heterogeneity of knowledge that arises at the intersection of individual perceptive experience and the chance compositions generated through the act of exploration. Rooted in curiosity and experimentation, her research and creative process reflect a need to trace and invent new territories, to subvert perceptual habits, and to imagine possible encounters between organic and non-organic matter.
Through the use of diverse media and transformative processes, modular geographies and identities emerge.
In brief, she likes to play around and see what happens.
