ELECTRICITY MATTERS

electronics and sound workshop, concluding with a performance as an ephemeral art collective

ELECTRICITY MATTERS is a three-day creative workshop during which participants will learn basic concepts in sound art, electronics, and sound improvisation. Each participant will build a series of electronic circuits that manipulate the electricity feeding them and interpret it in the form of sound harmonies and disharmonies. By using raw electricity as the main conceptual element, the circuits combine a series of basic electronic components and chips that transform the applied electrical charge into sound potential. The shape, content, and combination of each circuit are fluid, giving each participant the opportunity to invent their own instrument and manipulate it as they choose. The workshop has two main goals: to impart new technical knowledge and to foster a creative dialogue that leads to a collective sound work, which will be presented publicly at the end of the process.

The workshop was presented for the first time at DA Fest, Sofia, Bulgaria, thanks to the Association of Cultural Managers in Bulgaria, the National Academy of Art, and Robotev. Afterwards, the workshop and the ephemeral art collective took place in Montreal, Canada (Studio XX, 2018), Amsterdam, Netherlands (Instruments Make Play, 2017), and Quebec, Canada (Avatar, 2017).
